Apparently he’s a ruling member of Hamas (which is a terrorist organisation in case you’ve forgotten.) It’s in Jeremy Corbyn’s patch, and the Labour leader is a frequent visitor and supporter. I was wondering if the BBC had anything to say about it, so I tapped “Finsbury Park Mosque" into the BBC’s so-called “search engine”and came up with this. *TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2017Part 2—This whole discourse is out of order:* Did Hillary Clinton, as first lady, conduct a ridiculous seance? In June 1996, the nation's collections of crazies, defectives, halfwits and journalists had a wonderful time kicking that turkey around. They got the claim from promotional materials designed to sell Robert Woodward's otherwise unsellable book, The Choice. Woodward was soon protesting, arguably a bit too much, that he hadn't said, and hadn't meant to imply, any such crazy thing. That said, it was a wonderful marketing ploy, and it kept the child... more »

Why An Invasion of North Korea Is the U.S. Military's Ultimate Nightmare

*Kyle Mizokami* *Security, Asia* Millions could die in such a war. This weekend, the Pentagon told Congressional lawmakers that the only way to locate and secure North Korea’s nuclear weapons “with complete certainty” is through a ground invasion. That’s a blow to those that thought the issue could be dealt with via special forces or a surgical strike. An invasion of the country would be a major strategic commitment by the United States, South Korea and its allies. But what would an invasion of the country actually look like? The chart is a plot of oil rigs in the United States compared to the number of workers the oil industry employs, and it’s an important part of a puzzle that needs to be pieced together before it’s too late. *(Click the image for a larger view.)* What should be immediately apparent is that as the number of oil rigs declined due to falling oil prices,... more »

Needless to say, Tweets praising the merits of James Landale's investigative journalism have attracted a predictable type of fly. However, it seems that esteemed commenter “Pounce” has the low-down on the matter. It truly was a matter of ministerial code. But did James Landale need to actually slavver over it? *U... more »

Trouble in Paradise

The Paradise Papers have hit the fan. Bernie Sanders understands what they are really telling us: Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, in a statement to The Guardian, said that the papers demonstrate that the world has turned into an “international oligarchy” controlled by a minute number of billionaires. “The major issue of our time is the rapid movement toward international oligarchy, in which a handful of billionaires own and control a significant part of the global economy,” he said. “The Paradise Papers shows how these billionaires and multinational corporations get richer by hiding ... more »

Global Sovereign Debt Creep - Another Unintended Consequence

A Political Junkie at Viable Opposition - 17 hours ago
A fascinating infographic on the Visual Capitalist website looks at the major unintended consequence of the extended period of post-Great Recession ultra-low interest rates; debt creep by the world's governments. During this lengthy monetary experiment by the world's leading central banks, national governments (and other levels of government as well) have taken the opportunity to load up on debt since it appears that, at low single digit interest rates, there is no risk in accumulating additional debt. Let's start by looking at two examples starting with the United States. Here i... more »

*Even without an El Nino kick, 2017 heads for top-three ranking for global heat* *An amusing bit of Warmism below. Now that 2017 is trending much cooler than 2016, they suddenly admit that the 2016 temperature was pushed up by El Nino. They previously avoided mentioning the El Nino effect and pretended the warming was part of anthropogenic global warming. The authors below say that there was no influence of ElNino in 2017 so therefore the warmth must be traceable to the higher CO2 levels in 2017. Why Russia's Sixth-Generation Fighter Could Beat the F-22 or F-35 in Battle

*Dave Majumdar* *Security, Europe* New tech, that is. *The aircraft will also be equipped with directed energy weapons—and fly as part of a swarm of drones. Indeed, while two aircraft in a flight might be manned, there might be 20 to 30 unmanned aircraft accompanying those jets.* The Russian defense industry is starting to look at concepts for a sixth-generation fighter that would eventually replace the Sukhoi Su-57 PAK-FA. The One Way North Korea Could Start a War (Between Russia and America)

Dave Majumdar at The National Interest - 18 hours ago
*Dave Majumdar* *Security, Asia* In a recent op-ed, Lewis argues that an American interceptor launch could accidentally trigger a nuclear exchange if the Russians mistook such a weapon for an incoming ICBM. *Thus, at the end of the day, the United States should probably consult with Russia about the possibility of intercepting North Korean ICBMs over Moscow’s territory and set up an agreement ahead of time. But even then, during a real intercept attempt, the United States will likely have to count on Russia’s early warning system operating correctly and the Kremlin’s restraint t... more »

A new book, published today, lifts the veil on a hitherto highly secretive front in the fight against terrorism. It's titled 'Harpoon: Inside the Covert War Against Terrorism's Money Masters'. It's of particular interest to me because one of those involved in this effort is a person I knew back in South Africa. S/he was particularly skilled in various forms of electronic warfare, including the infiltration of enemy communications networks. Such skills are always in high demand in certain quarters: so, some years ago, my acquaintance accepted an offer to move to another count... more »

The war to decide who will ultimately call the shots in Islam (and in the Middle East) is beginning in earnest -- in a way that is typical for that part of the world. This brief describes how that is unfolding without providing a back story per se. The Obama Administration favored Iran and the Persian Empire. The Trump Administration favors Saudi Arabia and the Arabs. America First as a concept means that we pick the side that doesn't want to wipe us off the Earth. Make of that what you will. The carbon aspect may surprise us as well. At least the data itself is plausibly secure and repeatable and easily avoid contamination. . *Coralgal reef ... more »

It should be painfully clear to the North Korean regime that Russia and China will no longer support them during the building confrontation with Trump. I also suspect that they have agreed to enter North Korea in order to manage the regime change itself, allowing South Korea to stand back and avoid the initial unrest and really wait until they are invited. China can certainly live with a friendly united Korea. In fact it would be a massive boost to China. We do have the option of allowing the sanctions regime to force things, but applying real pressure is more likely. Ult... more »

Defeating ISIS Is Good For The Environment

News Staff at Science 2.0 - Earth Sciences - 1 day ago
Life in the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) is not exactly paradise. Children are indoctrinated, women are severely oppressed, and infidels are beheaded. Ancient cultural artifacts and historical treasures are destroyed. Liberating people conquered by ISIS, therefore, is good not only for humanitarian reasons but for archaeological ones, as well. Now, it appears there is yet another reason to defeat ISIS: It might be good for the planet. A new study published by Princeton University and the World Bank shows that oil production in ISIS-controlled areas has fallen by over 70%, from 5... more »

Magic Kingdom Commentary

There is always a lot going on in Saudi Arabia. It's an oil rich nation, it's the center of the Muslim World, and there are a number of political factions, most notably, the Wahhabists, who are absolute enemies of the US (and anyone who reads this blog). One of this blog's readers has asked me to comment more about goings on in the Magic Kingdom. I picked one item of recent note. I'll ad more about comings and goings including the ongoing struggle with Qatar in future blog posts. In a televised address from Saudi Arabia on 4 November, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri announced... more »

Picture Of The Day

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 1 day ago
The flag of the Soviet Union flies over Vladimir Lenin's tomb during ceremonies in 2007, marking the 90th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. Ten years on, the Kremlin's campaigns to reconcile its Soviet and czarist periods reflect the underlying contradictions in Russia's history. Czar Nicholas II, now hailed as a martyr, was an unpopular and ineffectual ruler. The Soviet system, envisioned as a utopia, was forged through a bloody revolution. And today, Russia is a powerful global actor with an increasingly tenuous grasp on its domestic affairs. (NATALIA KOLESNIKOVA/AFP) *WNU ... more »

Photograph: Peter Kovalev/TASS *Shaun Walker, The Guardian:* *Revolution, what revolution? Russians show little interest in 1917 centenary* Results of revolution led by Lenin are criticised as ‘ambiguous’ by Putin in what is seen as an effort to downplay revolution as political tool “Lenin lived! Yesterday, NBC broke the news most of all have surmised, namely that Mueller has enough evidence on Flynn to bring charges against him and his crackpot son (the one who was pushing the story about Hillary running a child prostitution business from the basement of a popular DC pizzeria (that has no basement). U.S. government “climate report” timed for Bonn UN conference

CFACT Ed at CFACT - 1 day ago
Friday's release of the wildly alarmist "Climate Science Special Report" or CSSP has brought forth the predictable green gush from the lefty press. The fact that this is an official federal report that contradicts the Trump Administration's climate skepticism is its big selling point. That the release is strategically timed with the beginning of the grand UN climate control festival in Bonn, Germany makes it more than timely. That the science is crap is irrelevant.
